Dear Colleagues,
we are pleased to invite you to the 11th International Conference “Cities of the 21st century”: Inspirations and effects of planning and management of the city development, which is hosted by the Department of Economic Geography and Spatial Management of the University of Opole and the European Regional Science Association (ERSA), Polish Section.
The aim of the conference is to promote and exchange new research results between research workers, decision makers and practitioners in the field of planning and management of urban development. Particular needs and results findings to new problems and challenges in the functioning of cities and urban areas will be discussed within the main conference fields such as:
1. Transformations of the functional structure of cities
2. Evolution of the concept of spatial planning of cities

Scientific discussion will focus on the following issues:
− Ideas, forecasts, plans and programs for urban space development;
− Reconstruction and shaping of urban functions;
− Integrated and participative management of cities and urban areas;
− Sustainable urban development;
− Municipal real estate market;
− The city’s ecological system (urban ecological problems);
− Planning and functioning of public transport;
− Development and use of public spaces;
− Education in the sphere of urban planning and development;
− Cities as regional growth poles;
− Good practices in urban planning and urban development programming.

The conference is especially addressed to:
− academic staff from Poland and abroad dealing with urban issues: economists, geographers, sociologists, urban planners, architects, spatial planners;
− representatives of local and regional authorities responsible for urban development policy;
− representatives of enterprises and institutions operating in the areas related to urban issues;
− students of the faculties related to the conference subject-matter;
− all other people interested in the conference issues.

– the cost of food (coffee break, lunch, dinner),

– publication in scientific journal “Studia Miejskie” (ISSN: 2082-4793 (Online))- /Urban Studies/, (after obtaining positive reviews): the magazines is currently participating in the competition “Support for scientific magazines”.
Conference fee does not cover accommodation and transportation to Opole.

Paper will be published in the next issues after positive reviews .
All articles are reviewed by the Editorial Board and qualified reviewers. Decisions will be made as rapidly as possible. The editorial board will re-review articles that are accepted pending revision. All accepted articles will be published online immediately after proof reading and formatting process.
